June 19, 2004 - Lisboa (Lisbon), Portugal |
|
Lisbon is one of my favorite cities that we visited this summer, primarily because of the small shops and the walk-ability of the downtown area. |
Lisbon? or San Francisco? :-P
Breakfast: Apricots, Melba Toast, Graham crackers and milk. We had a funny tour guide today. He had black hair, a blue shirt, thin legs and a big body. We dropped by this park.. named after someone who was royalty but I forget the name.
On the other side... was a Maze:
Then we went to the Stock Exchange Palace. No photography was allowed so I don't have photos here. Maybe it was to get us to buy postcards, which I did. Anyway, there was one guy who kept taking photos when he thought no one was looking. There were beautiful mosaics in the ceiling and the floor. The Main Room ceiling had a Coat of Arms for a bunch of countries, including the US (Eagle and E Pluribus Unum). The Arabian room looked intricate while the Judgment Room looked imposing. The Board of Directors room was very elaborate. I think it's amazing how they can carve granite. There was a 1.5 ton chandelier too. Hope that doesn't crash. I took a picture of the ground outside of an exploration museum (ships and planes). It was windy so my hair got in the way.
I also saw a napkin dispenser that looked like a Kleenex box. I later found out that some are cylindrical and look like soda cans.
Then we went to a Church. I took photos but we had to rush out at 11 am as Mass was starting. This is the ugly ceiling. It reminded me of the Matrix machines.
Then we crossed the bridge to get to the winery. I kept falling asleep because there was a traffic jam and looking at cars stuck in traffic is boring. I had some 10 year old port wine from Grahams after the winery tour. I also ate some biscuits that came with the wine. I liked white (wine) better than red but that's probably because I haven't acquired the taste for alcohol yet. My mom bought 5 bottles to bring home. :-P After we got back to the boat, I was an idiot and burned my left hand on the back of a spoon I had heated over a candle in an attempt to see if I could get some wax to gather from the wax vapors. I forgot metal conducts electricity. OW! We went out again and went shopping. I bought some little tiles that have cork backs for some friends. A big monument, of Henry the Navigator, his mom, and the court. The right picture is the entrance. We didn't go in because we didn't have enough time.
There was an art display:
Restaurants. Some people were going crazy because it was the World Cup and fans had flown in from everywhere to see cheer on their favorite team.
Some people performing in the street (there were lots of them, including these little boys with dogs):
We saw another church:
It says Sacramento:
I forgot what I ate for dinner because I didn't write it down in my paper journal. |
