June 17, 2004 - Mediterranean Sea, Strait of Gibraltar, At sea |
|
Note: Today was also my sister Francesca's 17th birthday and the first formal night on board. There were three in total
I woke up at 8 am. After bday decorations - I had breakfast. I had a liquidy omelet with mushroom, pepper, cheese, onion. And I age
some of cassandra's pancake. And, the bestest thing of all... I had CHOCO MILK! :-)
Afterwards, I tried to go back to my room but some practice fire evacuaction team drill was going on in my hallway so I had to wait until the crew was done with that.
Twas interesting.
Francesca went to go watch a demonstration of how to make crab cakes and duck. Then my family and I went to see the on-board fancy restaurant (as in, you pay extra if you want to eat there)
kitchen tour. They had real silverware and Bulgari dishware.
Brunch (food again!) was Dutch style. I had... BABY PANCAKES! They were YUMMY!!! And cute. :-)
Also had some little potatos, beans, and some fancy dessert.I brought some more baby pancakes to my sisters but they were not as interested as I was... so I just ate the rest. :-)
Then I went with Francesca to... um.. get more food. We ate a lot on this trip. But surprisingly enough, I weighed exactly the same before and after. I think it
was cuz food was on the 11th floor. And we lived on the 5th.
So Francesca got Papaya. I got Vanilla soft serve. Ari came to talk with us. Ari is a very young looking (maybe ~19 or 20 years old?) guy who works in the kitchen. He asked a lot of questions.
I think he's socially awkward. He also asked what room we lived in and if I went to Stanford.
Then Franecesca and I were going to go biking but then my mom and Cassandra got all excited about Viennese High Tea (food again :-P). So.... we did that instead. Cassandra
even got extra sausage rolls and pastries at the end of it. But she was too shy to get it so Francesca had to do it for her.
Anyhow, I had condensed milk in my tea. Tea is good! Although I like Chinese tea better in general. I also had cheesecake and baby chocolate eclair.
Then Francesca and I got to go biking.
Then we had to dress up for dinner because it was the first formal night. I wore the new jewelry I got yesterday and my sophomore formal/viennese
ball dress and my senior prom shoes. Maybe I should have brought my senior prom
dress. Anyhow, food was good. Music was string music - very nice. :-) So food:
I took a lot of photos of the beautiful sunset, and of the rock of Gibraltar. One of these photos was my desktop background all summer. We even saw dolphins but I couldn't get a photo of them.
I noticed on the way down to the cabin that one of the hallways had Chagall's paintings. I was really happy. :-)
So.. I went to sleep around midnight. About half an hour, I was rudely awaken by a phone call. I picked up the phone, extremely irritated. The caller was "a friend of Ari". I think it was Ari himself.
No, I'm not free, I told him. I'm sleeping, and I have to get up early tomorrow. Isn't it unprofessional to call a guest at 12:30 in the morning just to chat?
