Ruff the Hamster
|
||
About two and a half months ago, our pet hamster, Ruff, escaped from his
cage. Two nights ago, my daughter, Kaitlin and I were in the kitchen at the
table. I was helping her with her homework, also the first night in a long
time, that I sat in the kitchen working quietly. After Kaitlin finished, she
went into the family room nearby. I then hear, what sounded like a mouse
scratching his way out of something. The noise would quit when I stopped
talking. I told my husband that, I was sure that, we had mice in the house,
never dreaming it would be Ruff. My husband said, yea, yea, I saw one in the
garage the other day. Well, the noise kept coming. I told my husband to
come into the kitchen and I had him listen to the sound. We both looked at
each other, and decided it might be Ruff!!!!!!!!! My husband, proceeded to get a large knife from the garage. He then bent down on his knees and tried to pry the baseboard loose. It loosen up and under the board of the cabinet was Ruff...trapped. Ruff was confinded to a small place under the stove cabinet. He was dirty looking and very thin when we picked him up. One strange thing was that there was kibbles of dog food in this space. Our family was trying to figure out why he took all that food under the cabinet and why was he so weak. The dogs water and food bowl were about 30 feet away from his space. When I picked him up, I handed him to Kaitlin and she was hysterical..........It was the most rewarding thing I had every seen in my 39 years of life. Then Kaitlin said, "mom.......remember that shooting star we saw weeks ago?.......well......I wished that we could find Ruff". What a great ending to a beautiful happening in life. I will never forget her face. |
