October 20 2002 - A cross section of a pre-midterm 2 weekend, as told from Sunday's point of view |
|
It was very scary yesterday - all day I was checking the course website to find my grade for the math midterm. All the other classes except mine already had their grades posted. My professor said it would be posted by Sat evening. So I checked and checked every few minutes. Every time I went by a computer, I had to check*. Then I was all disappointed around 11 pm, because the TAs would have gone to bed by then, or at least stopped working and have done their own thing.
At midnight, when I went back to go to sleep - I checked one more time - and the class results were posted in a graph. The median was 67, the mean was 66. There were people with 20 and 30 some percents. And others with 90s. I knew I had at least 30% and was very scared. The 66/67 will be about a B or a B+. I am guessing that the people with the 90s likely took this class before somewhere else. But my score was not up yet since I took my test a day later. So this morning I checked, and still no result. I emailed my professor :-) Then I checked back after the play rehearsal and saw it! I'm above average! I'm above Stanford 50%ile... in the hard quarter of math! So I might have a chance at this A - maybe an A-, but I have a chance!** Now I have to study study study some more! And then dancing. And then movie. And then study study study study - college is fun :-P
* even at two parties that night... one at Burbank and one at Lamba Nu. At Burbank, K@ acquiesed to tasting a bit of the cheap wine, but as soon as she even tasted it, she had to spit it out. Quite a funny scene. There is certainly no temptation for alcohol here! Furthermore, K@ found a hammock at Lambda Nu... Hammocks are nice. Also, the music at Lambda Nu was FAR better than that at any of the other parties that night. Maybe because it was techno... Strangely enough, there were only 3 or 4 people there, so that when some friends and I showed up, we practically doubled the number of people there! Instead of a dining hall, Lambda Nu has an open kitchen! Lambda Nu also has a Sesame street - another nice addition :-) I also met Agarg83 in person, a very helpful '05er who advised all the eager '06ers on the Stanford 2006 Yahoo! Groups site over the summer. ** Nope, no chance it turns out - due to worsened performance on the next two exams. |
