Dumpling making day, Traffic Survey, Burbank SYR, St. Olaf's Choir
What a day today was!

It began with going down to the EV (Escondido Village - grad students area) Community Center to make Chinese Dumplings, in celebration on Chinese New Year, with the Chinese "department" (Stanford doesn't have a Chinese department - only an Asian Languages Department). I didn't eat any - just made them. :-) That was fun, and I talked with Professor Sun, whose IntroSem, Chinese Language, Culture, and Society, I want to take next quarter.

Then, I went back to help out with a traffic survey across the FloMo crosswalk. We've had too many bike/car accidents, including some which required hospitalization. So, the RAs and RFs devised a survey to see how many pedestrians, cyclists, and cars break traffic rules, that is, statistically, whose fault is it for these accidents?

Turns out it's everyone's fault.

Today was also Stern's SYR (Screw Your Roommate) Dance. This is an event like SYS (Screw Your Sib[ling]) that the Stanford culture has - probably in response to the myth of "There is no dating at Stanford". Anyway, the roommate is supposed to set you up with a date. And then it proceeds like any other dance.

Earlier, Ken, Albert's roommate,  had asked me to go with Albert. I accepted but then had to rearrange things because I had already bought tickets to hear St. Olaf's Choir in MemChu (Memorial Church) that evening.

Not wanting to wear the same dress I've worn to EVERY semi-formal event at Stanford, I wore what I wore to Jr. Prom. Yes - that $10 dress... looked a bit ridiculous, but, whatever.

Dinner was at Bella Luna - very yummy. I had Gnocci - one of my favorite Italian dishes :-P

We arrived back in time to hear St. Olaf's Choir - good stuff. :-) Music is so amazing, and MemChu has good acoustics.

Then it was time for the actual dance. We only danced a little and mainly sat around talking. Albert kept trying to make sure that I was ok. I found that a bit funny. All in all, SYR was quite fun. :-)

And then... darn, it was Sunday - and time to get back to work.
