Stressing over school work...

I went to sleep last night or this morning around 2:30 amafter giving up temporarily on a pretty poorly written paper arguing that it is possible to be a morally good, and effective, politician - citing examples from Machiavelli's The Prince and Dante's Inferno. A couple dormmates, Sumeet and Brian, were kind enough to bash my paper for me late last night. So... I woke up this morning around 6:30 to rewrite the paper. It's still bad. But at 8:15,I decided that the paper could not be further salvaged... and left it at that.

Econ was good as usual. Midterm next Monday? WHAT? I thought we just had one! Oh well...

Then CS reading on Pointers. It seems that there is no point to read the book if I go to class and vice versa. But I do both anyway out of habit.

Anyway, after CS... it was RAINING!! But luckily, it stopped enough for me to get to the CDC (Career Development Center) for work. That's work? No, no, it's fun! My supervisor, when I walked in, was researching the Oscars. He wants to watch all the nominated movies before the winners are announced. And then, we talked about Amelie... Ok, ok, eventually talk turned towards techie stuff like servers, ASP, JSP, J-RUN, RAID, RAIC, and a bunch of alphabet soup stuff (It's Stanford, it seems to pride itself on acronyms). Then, talk about redesigning the CDC website. Very good! I love doing layout!

In the middle of all that, one of the CDC people asked me to take a digital photo of the whole group holding a "We miss you sign" so that they could send it to some people who were out of office. Seems like the camera that they had was running low on battery power. I was able to take just one photo before it decided to not work. LUCKILY, I had MY digital camera on me. So I used that to take a couple photos. Fantastic!

Coming back to the dorm to take a nap, or attempt to, I encountered a heavy rain storm. Very dramatic! It was like one of those movie scenes where it goes from sunny sky to steady rain in an instant, immediately after a giant flash of lightning and rolling thunder. It never sprinkles in movies. They always have to make it so dramatic so that the rain shows up on cameras.

Reading... Prolegomena to All Future Metaphysics by Kant and On the Social Contract by Rousseau. One day, it'd be nice to read On the Social Contract in French.

AND I might go ice skating this Saturday! YAY Ice skating!!

And despite stressing over various school work, I've found that academics maybe are not as significant as I once had held them to be. There is a social education that occurs as well. I am continuously amazed by my dormmates, classmates, and friends. Not only are these people incredibly smart and bring many different perspectives on different issues, they often are willing to help me, or just to listen.

There is so nothing that can replace a college experience, especially not that of Stanford. I still hold to my stance that the intellectual vitality here is tremendous.

No rainbow outside today - but there was a rainbow in the sky, on the day it rained forever
